10 Online Side Hustles to Make Money from Home in Nigeria (2024)
I remember just a few years back, it would be difficult to convince someone that they could perform a few tasks over the internet, and get paid.
Fast forward to today, almost everyone and their dog in Nigeria are now either full-time freelancers, bloggers, or content creators.
Everyone is now seeking ways to hustle online and make money for themselves.
If you're unemployed or underemployed, and looking for a side hustle online that you can do to supplement your monthly income, then this post is for you.
I've had one or two experiences with these ideas, and I believe you can make some money from a few of them, if you truly apply yourself and stay consistent.
Let's get right into it.
Web Hacks
I remember the first time I made money from this idea, I met someone on Nairaland who needed a tweak for his website.
Actually, he wanted to add a custom domain to his blogger blog, and needed assistance.
At that time, the solution for adding a custom domain to a blogger blog wasn't yet widespread, but I'd done it quite a few times with my blogs.
So, I offered to meet up with this gentleman to offer the service. We met, and I was paid 5k Naira for a job that took just under 20 minutes.
That was almost almost 10 years ago, so 5k Naira was still valuable. It is probably worth about 40k Naira today.
So, what's my point?
I'm trying to say that you can sell your web hack skills online and make money with it.
If you go to social media and several online forums, you'll meet a lot of people looking for web solutions that you already probably know about.
Simply offer your unique service and collect your money.
Social Media Flipping
If you're good at creating and stimulating online communities, you could create and sell social media pages.
Nowadays, anything of value in the digital space can be flipped for profit, and that includes social media pages.
If you have a Facebook, Twitter or Instagram page with at least 5k followers, be rest assured that someone will be willing to pay you as much as 20k for it.
So, if you can create one, why not create more and sell? This could be a legit online side hustle that consistently puts money into your pocket.
eCurrency Exchange
If you're really conversant with the digital space in Nigeria, you'll notice that a lot of people are making money online.
In fact, more than 50% of the people you meet online have digital careers that depend 100% on online income.
These people earn money in foreign currency, and often need an exchange service to convert their earnings to Naira.
You could set up shop as an eCurrency exchanger on the popular payment channels such as PayPal or Payoneer, and offer Naira for dollars.
You could offer your rates slightly below the official Dollar to Naira rate, and that's where you can make your profit.
Farm Crypto
A lot of users on crypto platforms are not actually crypto traders, but online hustlers looking for their daily bread.
If you've been active lately on any crypto app, you'll see that they host a lot of crypto farming activities where users can earn free crypto.
If you stay active enough on these platforms and participate in farming activities, then you can earn some crypto that you can convert to cash in Naira.
This might be one online side hustle that can pay you faster than others, but you might need to commit funds if you want to make a substantial earning.
Contribute to Online Surveys
I usually do not like recommending online surveys as a side hustle, but they actually do pay if you find a legit one.
I recently reviewed Digiopinion surveys, and recommended people to try it out and give their feedback.
So, if it's something you want to try out as a side hustle, you might as well go for it.
However, the biggest issue I have with surveys as an online side hustle is that most platforms do not pay a reasonable amount.
Many of them pay less than $0.1 per survey, which is on the low side.
You'll have to slave away on a daily basis to make any reasonable money, and that's if they do not set an unreasonable withdrawal threshold.
That said, if you can find one with a low withdrawal threshold, and if $10 per month isn't too bad for you, then you can give it a try.
YouTube Thumbnail Designs
Many people do not realize that there is a huge market for YouTube thumbnail design.
A lot of YouTubers are great at making engaging videos, but poor at making great thumbnails for their videos. And it has been established that thumbnails are what attract views.
You could have the most interesting video on YouTube, but if you don't have the right thumbnail to pull in viewers, that video would likely perform poorly.
Hence, the demand for good thumbnail designers is on the rise.
You could start pitching YouTubers with alternative thumbnail designs you've created for their videos, and sell to them.
Otherwise, you could set up shop on platforms like Fiverr, with gigs providing YouTube thumbnail design services, and you'll start making online.
SEO Assistance
A lot of webmasters in Nigeria are clueless about SEO. and optimizing their websites for traffic.
It would surprise you how many website owners in Nigeria do not even know about the basics of setting up their website for search indexing and ranking.
I remember talking to a particular website owner, and I discovered that he didn't know what Google search console was. I mean, this is the absolute basics, and yet, he didn't have a clue.
If you're experienced with ranking websites from scratch, and you're conversant with the recent google updates, then you could offer your skills to webmasters looking to optimize their websites for search.
Some webmasters are even looking for experienced SEOs who can manage their website from scratch until it starts getting a reasonable amount of traffic.
If you could land one or two of these types of deals, you could be making money on a consistent basis.
Info Marketing on WhatsApp
I’m of the opinion that WhatsApp is underused as a marketing platform in Nigeria.
You can sell a lot of things on WhatsApp, including information, but most times, we don't think that the information we have is worth selling, so we keep leaving money on the table.
A case in point, just a moment ago, someone asked me a very basic question about crypto on WhatsApp, and he was willing to pay me to provide him with that information.
Mind you, that information can be gotten with just a simple Google search and a little bit of research skills.
But a lot of these guys are lazy and want to be spoon fed with information.
So, why not give them exactly what they want and get paid for it? That's where your info marketing skill comes into play.
Video Editing
One of the most lucrative skills to monetize is video editing. This is because there are many poor video editors masquerading as experts.
If you've discovered that your edited videos always stand out, and people usually commend your editing skills, then you should probably start monetizing it.
It's easier to show them your video editing skills than to just tell them about it. So, you could pitch your skills to YouTubers or other video content creators by editing their old videos for free and sending it to them.
If they are impressed with your editing skills, they will be more likely to hire you to edit their next videos.
Create & Sell Faceless Videos
This is not mainstream yet, but could be a legitimate online side hustle if you find a trending niche.
Faceless videos are becoming a thing these days, but only a few people can create engaging videos without showing their face.
If you're a talented faceless video creator that can create engaging videos in popular niches, then you could turn it into a hustle and make money.
The idea is to create 10 to 20 seconds titbits of your videos and then share them across social media. The videos with the most engagements could be pitched further to people who show interest in them, to buy the full video.
It just takes a little marketing to find your market, and then you'll start creating videos in niches where people show the most interest, and you'll start making money.
